ID Requirements

Identification Requirements for Voting

Effective July 1, 2020 voters must present one of the following acceptable forms of identification when voting:

  • Virginia Driver’s License -Virginia law permits an expired DMV license to be used for voting purposes
  • Virginia DMV issued photo identification card
  • Valid United States Passport
  • Valid Employee photo identification card
  • Other photo identification card issued by a government agency of the Commonwealth, one of its political subdivisions, or the United States
  • Student ID issued by any community college or university located in the United States
  • Valid student ID issued by a public or private high school in Virginia
  • Voter confirmation documents
  • Voter registration notice
  • A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document containing the name and address of the voter
