Preregistration for COVID-19 Vaccinations

How to sign up to receive a COVID-19 Vaccine

Step 1: Find Out if You Are Eligible for a Vaccine in the Current Priority Groups

Employers; members of the Phase 1a (PDF) and Phase 1b (PDF)  groups who have not been contacted by their employers; residents aged 65 and over; and those 16-65* with high risk health conditions; may begin the vaccination registration process by going to the Virginia Statewide Pre-Registration System.

STEP 2:  Contact the Health Department

If you are in either the Phase 1a or Phase 1b priority groups, contact the Virginia Department of Health in one of two ways:

Register at the Virginia Statewide Pre-Registration System

  • This survey verifies your eligibility and provides your contact information.
  • Please submit one survey form per person.
  • You can also check your status in the system.

By Phone

If you do not have access to the internet, you may call the Vaccinate Virginia hotline at 877-VAX-IN-VA (877-829-4682) between 8:00am and 8:00 pm. You can ask questions and get pre-registered by using this number.

STEP 3:  Be Patient; Wait for the Health Department to Contact You

After submitting the form or completing the pre-screen by phone, it may take days to weeks before you receive a response. You can check your status at

Once you submit the online survey form, you do not need to call the Health Department

STEP 4:  The Health Department Will Contact You When it is Your Turn

When vaccine supply is adequate and appointments are available, if you submitted an online form or completed the pre-screening process over the phone, you will be contacted by the Health Department to schedule an appointment. It likely will take several weeks before you get a vaccination appointment due to a higher volume of requests for appointments than the current number of vaccines available.

Because the Commonwealth has prioritized the distribution of vaccines, the Health Department is following the defined Phase 1b prioritized list and vaccination appointments will be offered in priority order. Please be patient; once you submit an online pre-screening survey, there is no need to call the Health Department.

You will be contacted by email if you provided an email address in your pre-screening survey. If you do not have an email address, you will be contacted by phone regarding an appointment.

When will others get the vaccine?

The Pittsylvania-Danville Health District (PDHD) will follow the recommendations of VDH and CDC for administration of vaccine. The Virginia Department of Health will authorize PDHD to move into each subsequent phase of vaccination. We are not able to predict the exact dates on which members of the priority groups will receive vaccine. Stay informed; we will announce when each phase of the vaccination process will begin, as well as provide information about vaccination opportunities offered by the districts.

  • The next priority group, Phase 1c (PDF), includes other essential workers.
  • At this time, the Pittsylvania-Danville Health District have not yet authorized to vaccinate individuals outside of the 1a and 1b priority groups.
  • Be patient. Eventually, enough vaccine will become available for everyone.
