The Board shall consist of seven members appointed by the Council that serve three-year terms. Board members shall be selected on the basis of their ability to render fair and competent decisions regarding application of the Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) (PDF). Members shall, to the extent possible, represent different occupational or professional fields relating to the Board such as licensed professional engineers or architects. Members receive $15 in compensation for each meeting attended. To apply to serve on this Board, please fill out our online application.

Functions
The functions of the Building Code Board of Appeals include:
- Hearing and deciding appeals of a decision of the Building Official concerning the application of the USBC or his/her refusal to grant a modification to the provisions of the USBC covering the manner of construction or materials to be used in the erection, alteration, or repair of a building or structure
- Hearing and deciding appeals of a decision of the Code Official concerning the application of the Building Maintenance Code (BMC), or his/her refusal to grant a modification to the provisions of the BMC covering the manner of maintenance or use or the materials to be used in the maintenance or repair of a building or structure
- Hearing and deciding appeals of a decision of the Fire Official concerning the application of the Statewide Fire Prevention Code
- Hearing and deciding appeals of a decision of the Code Official concerning his declarations of dangerous structures and his orders regarding the necessary corrective action(s) to abate the dangerous conditions as provided for in Section 9-3 of the Code of the City of Danville, 1986, as amended
