In support of the Danville Public School system's start of the new school year on Thursday, Danville Police welcomed students back to school. Officers rode buses a part of their second annual “Badges on Buses” program.
Officers greeted each child as they boarded the bus, spoke to parents at the bus stops, interacted with them along the route and sent the children off with a smile and new badge!
Also as part of this year’s program, they spoke to the children about bullying and instructed them that if they “see something, say something!”
"It's important to us that kids and their families get to know us, number one, and number two, feel safe," Danville Police Chief Scott Booth said. "We have a lot of work to do in our community to continuously make people feel safe, but I think this is a great step."
The effort was part of the Police Department’s community and youth engagement program.
