The Danville Police Department is pleased to announce the promotion of 19 officers today that will be effective January 1, 2021.
Chief Scott Booth promoted officers to the ranks of captain, lieutenant, sergeant and corporal in a ceremony held in the auditorium at the O. Trent Bonner Middle School. The department followed COVID protocols and used Zoom in order for family and friends to watch the ceremony.
During his remarks, Chief Booth reminded the new supervisors, “You are leaders in the department and the community; leaders make decisions, they treat people with compassion and show people dignity and respect.”
These promotions were due to the retirement of several senior members of the department over the course of this year.

Several of these new supervisors will be leaders in the department’s Neighborhood Oriented Policing strategy when the department implements it in January.
Danville Police Department used this time to issue the re-designed badge to all members of the department.
The new badge features a landscape view from the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge looking into downtown Danville. This badge is unique to Danville and replaces the more generic badge worn for over two decades. The new design was the concept of Cpl. Evan Wilson.
