Clean Up, Fix Up, Paint Up Month

May is Make Danville Shine month, we are hoping you and your neighbors will show your love for Danville in a whole new way! The goal of Make Danville Shine is to encourage every resident to focus on maintenance, upkeep and beautification of their property and to assist neighbors who may not be able to do so due to age or disability. This cleanup campaign is a big step in the City’s blight eradication efforts.

There are many ways to get involved with Make Danville Shine. Individuals, neighborhood groups, churches, civic organizations and youth groups are all encouraged to participate. Keep an eye on this page and the Facebook Page for more information on events and incentives.

The City would like to empower your community to come together to a make a meaningful impact in your area by providing resources that will allow you to clean-up, paint-up and fix-up your neighborhood.  Come join us for a day of fun and home improvement education on how to clean up, fix up your neighborhood!

Every resident can take part in the Make Danville Shine cleanup campaign. Below are five easy ways to participate:

  1. Clean out the gutters of your home,
  2. Repaint your shutters, front door or fence,
  3. Clear your yard of weeds, vines and overgrowth,
  4. Landscape your yard using flowers, mulch and other materials. and
  5. Set debris, trash, appliances and furniture at the curbside for city Public Works crews to pick up.

Take an hour. Take a day. Take a weekend. Show your love – Make Danville Shine.

City Incentives

Throughout the month of May, the Public Works Department will allow the following:

All household trash and small debris should be inside an approved cart 

  • One curbside collection per week on regular scheduled weekday 
  • Unapproved trash carts will not be emptied 
  • No loose trash or bags of household trash outside cart 
  • No hazardous materials (such as liquids, paints, fuel, car parts, etc.) 
  • If an additional cart is needed, Public Works has carts available for sale (Call: 799-5245) 

Free tire disposal 

Four (4) tires per household allowed in May 2021 (Must be from resident. No commercial tires) 

Free large appliance pickup 

Scheduled curbside collection of appliances BY APPOINTMENT ONLY (Call: 799-5245) 

Free oversized piles of large bulk debris collected by Bucket Truck 

  • One curbside collection per week on regular scheduled weekday 
  • Separate yard waste debris and large bulk debris 
  • No rental trailers are available 
  • ABSOLUTELY NO CONTRACTOR GENERATED BULK DEBRIS

Free heavy debris collected (bricks, rocks, cinder blocks, dirt, etc.) 

  • Scheduled curbside collection BY APPOINTMENT ONLY (Call: 799-5245) 
  • ABSOLUTELY NO HEAVY DEBRIS FROM CONTRACTORS 

Please note: The waived restrictions of trash and yard waste collection ends with your last regular scheduled weekday of collection in May. 

Make Danville Shine Home Expo - May 7, 2022

The eighth annual Make Danville Shine Home Expo will be hosted at the Community Market on May 7, 2022 from 8am-12pm.

Maintenance experts will be there to teach you and your neighbors the tricks of their trades as well as give away discounts and freebies. Additionally, there will crafts and activities for kids of all ages. Hot dogs and snacks will be provided.
