[ARCHIVED] City schedules public forum on River District parking study

The city of Danville will hold a public forum on Wednesday, Feb. 13, to outline the scope of a parking study for the River District, introduce the consultants that will conduct the study, and allow citizens to share their ideas and concerns related to parking.

The forum will begin at 6 p.m. in the second floor conference room at the Municipal Building, 427 Patton Street.

“The study not only will address current parking conditions, but it will help the city in planning to best meet its future parking needs,” said Amanda Paez, management analyst for the city of Danville and project leader for the parking study. “This meeting will be an opportunity for the community to provide direct input about specific parking issues.”

Paez said the forum will include a brief overview of the study objectives and process, but the focus will be on allowing citizens to share their personal experiences, observations, needs, concerns, ideas and suggestions.

“This forum is important as we work to develop an overall parking program that contributes to a healthy and growing River District,” Paez said. “It is a great opportunity for consultants to hear directly from you – the people who use and depend on the parking system on a daily basis.”

The city has selected Land Planning & Design Associates to conduct the study. LPDA will be assisted by Carl Walker Inc. LPDA is the landscape architecture and planning consulting firm that designed the current River District streetscape project. Carl Walker Inc. is an engineering and parking consulting firm that has clients nationwide. The company has eight offices across the nation, including offices in Charlotte, N.C., and Atlanta.
