[ARCHIVED] Danville seeks vendors to sell advertising for athletic field fences

The city of Danville is searching for vendors who will help the city generate revenue by selling advertising for signs that can be placed on the fences at city-owned athletic fields.

Vendors have until 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, to submit a proposal for the contract.

“We need a vendor to sell the signage space, do the graphic work, install the sign and maintain it,” Bill Sgrinia, director of the Parks and Recreation Department, said. “The plan is start with signs on the fences at the adult softball fields and the dog park, and from there we will expand as there is demand.”

After proposals are received, the city will select one vendor and negotiate a three-year contract with that vendor.

“It will be up to the vendor to establish advertising rates and then go out into the community to sell signage space,” Sgrinia said.

The vendor and the city will share the revenue. The signs must be three feet by four feet in size. Parks and Recreation must approve the theme color and design prior to installation.

The city will prohibit the vendor from selling advertising that promotes the sale or use of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products. It also will restrict advertising in which the primary message is one promoting or opposing particular religions, religious issues or religious doctrines. Political and social issues also face restrictions.

The city currently does not allow advertising signs of any kind on the fences at city-owned and operated athletic fields. This venture will be the city’s first in advertising on field fences.

The city also is searching for vendors who will sell advertising that can be placed on the city’s transit buses. The city has allowed advertising on transit buses for more than 15 years. The contract with the current vendor has expired.

Proposals for transit bus advertising also are due by 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15.
