Danville Parks and Recreation, along with Centra Medical Group, is pleased to announce the 2013 performance lineup for the upcoming Centra Medical Group Enchanted Evening Concert Series in Ballou Park.

The concerts are held the third Thursday of each month from April through August at the main stage in Ballou Park. All performances are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. In the event of rain, the concerts are moved indoors to Ballou Recreation Center. The concert series is co-sponsored by Centra, Aaron’s and Danville Parks and Recreation.

The first concert in the series will be held on April 18 and feature the Virginia All Steel Orchestra and G.W. High School Jazz Band.

The Virginia All Steel Orchestra is made up of children from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Martinsville. The students perform on a range of instruments including oil drums which produce a wide range of sonorities and music. The group has performed in multiple venues and events including Arts Alive, Black Box Theatre, Roosterwalk, BGCA’s National Youth of the Year competition, Oktoberfest, National Youth of the Year Dinner in Washington, DC and many more. In late 2012 the orchestra released its first demo CD: “Where Soul Meets Steel”.

The George Washington High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Reginald Purvis, is comprised of a select group of George Washington High School Students. Members specialize in saxophones, trombones, trumpets and rhythm. The group performs locally at school concerts, dances and community events.

The other concerts in the series are:
May 16 - "A Cooking Concert” with Chef Mel Melton.
June 20 – Jus’ Cauz Bluegrass Band.
July 18 - Lauren Light.
August 15-Chris Lane Band.
