[ARCHIVED] Deadline approaches to register for Danville’s Cardboard Challenge

Friday, Sept. 27, will be the final day to register as a participant or a non-profit for Danville’s Cardboard Challenge. The event, which is scheduled for Oct. 5 during the Imagine Children’s Festival, is offering community groups the opportunity to win up to $10,000 for their favorite nonprofit.

During the challenge, participating groups will compete for a non-profit of their choice, showing off projects built completely out of cardboard. Awards will be offered in various categories including Best in Show, Most Creative, Most Functional, Best Sign, Tallest, Largest Team, Most Artistic, Best River Theme, Most Colorful, Best Elementary School Project, Best Middle School Project, Best High School Project and Best Day-of Project.

Projects can be pre-built and loaded into the judging area prior to the Children’s Festival at the Carrington Pavilion or built on-site. Cardboard and supplies will be provided on-site but are limited while supplies last.

Judging will take place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Only non-profits that are registered with the event are eligible for awards. A list of participating nonprofits can be found at www.PlayDanvilleVA.com; click on the “Programs and Events” tabs and then “Danville’s Cardboard Challenge.” Entry forms can also be found on the website.
