The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to 141 Walker St. on Danville's north side at 10:28 am this morning. On arrival it was found that the front porch was burning near the steps. The fire was quickly extinguished and some of the boards were removed to make sure there was no extension of the fire into the house. A passer-by alerted the occupants and they were out of the structure upon the arrival of the Fire Department. There were no injuries and the fire did moderate damage to the porch.
The department responded with 3 engines, 1 ladder truck, a safety officer and a command officer. The department was on the scene for almost one hour with 16 personnel. The Fire Marshal investigated the blaze and determined it was caused accidentally by discarded smoking material.
