[ARCHIVED] Structure Fire At Woodside Apartments

The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire at the Woodside Village Apartments located at 1321 Piney Forest Road early this morning. Engine 5 arrived at 0215 hours and reported smoke showing from a first floor apartment. They made a quick stop on the fire. The fire was contained to one apartment out of the eight in the building. Moderate damage to the kitchen was caused by unattended cooking. The rest of the fire apartment suffered heavy smoke damage. Several other apartments had smoke removed by the DFD. Smoke damage to the other apartments was minimal. One person was displaced from the apartment that burned and an adult and child were displaced from an upstairs apartment. The Red Cross is assisting the occupants.
The DFD responded 4 engines, 2 aerial ladders, and 3 support vehicles. A total of 20 personnel were on scene for 1 hour and 36 minutes.
Unattended cooking is a leading cause of fires in the home. During the holiday season it is easy to get distracted from your stove. Please pay close attention to everything you are cooking. If you must be away from your stove, turn it off and remove any pots or pans.
