The next meeting of the Danville United Community Relations Coalition will be held Thursday, Jan. 30, in the Barkhouser Auditorium at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research on Slayton Avenue.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and include election of a chairman and vice chairman to serve during 2014.

Only registered members are eligible to vote.

Membership is open to all individuals and organizations but requires an application. To join, submit a membership form to the city manager’s office, which is located on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building on Patton Street, or register online at www.danvilleunited.org.

Members are encouraged to submit nominations for leadership. The list of nominees will be presented at the meeting. Nominations also may be made at the meeting from the floor.

The chairman presides over meetings, with the vice chairman presiding in the absence of the chairman. In order to serve, officers must be members at the time of the election.

Danville City Council voted unanimously in October to create the coalition, which is known as “Danville United.” The coalition provides a means for networking, information sharing and strategy development to make Danville a more tolerant, friendly and welcoming community to all regardless of race, gender, religion, creed, ethnicity, nationality, or economic status.
