[ARCHIVED] House Fire in Danville resulted in two injuries

The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to 292 Glenlyn St. on the City's north side at 8:14 pm this evening for a reported structure fire. While in route information was received that a handicapped person might still be in the structure. When fire units arrived they encountered heavy smoke from a single story house. Family members at the scene reported that one person was still in the house. Fire crews entered the structure and found the victim in the hallway and removed him to the outside. The Incident Commander was informed that the victim had serious burns and a Life Flight helicopter was requested. The kitchen, living room and hall were heavily involved with fire and the fire crews advanced an attack line in the front door and extinguished the fire while other Firefighters treated the patient. A female patient was also treated at the scene and sent to the Emergency Room with smoke inhalation. The more serious patient was flown to UNC Chapel Hill. The Fire Marshal's Office investigated the fire and found the cause to be a pot igniting while the occupant was cooking. Fire crews were on the scene for almost two hours with a total of 20 personnel, three Engines, One Ladder Truck, a Safety Officer and One Command Unit.
