Danville City Council will vote tonight on sending a resolution to Gov. Terry McAuliffe and the General Assembly, urging them to pass a budget.
The resolution calls on state leaders “to pass a budget as soon as practicable.”
The resolution notes that Danville relies on the state for 26 percent of its funding and not having a state budget in place when the new fiscal year begins July 1 could affect health, public safety, public education and other critical needs of its residents.
In other action, council members will:
» vote on accepting a $40,000 state grant to fund having an attorney or victim’s advocate at the Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court to deal with victims of domestic violence; and,
» hear a first reading of a proposed $32,760 grant from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to be used to upgrade equipment and support training the Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team.
These agenda items will be considered during City Council’s business session, which begins at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 427 Patton St.
Following the business session, council will reconvene in a work session for less formal discussions. Work sessions are conducted in the fourth floor conference room of the Municipal Building.
In the work session, City Council will discuss a request from city retirees to provide them with a one-time bonus this year.
