Danville City Manager Joe King announced today the resignation of Barbara Dameron as director of finance. Dameron is leaving to assume the position of finance director for the city of Roanoke.
Her resignation is effective June 30.
“We will certainly miss Barbara. She's been a key member of our management team and has done a great job for the city of Danville,” King said. “I grew up in Roanoke and am happy for that city's gain, but it is our loss!”
Dameron joined the city in February 1999 as a senior accountant. She was promoted to assistant finance director in July 1999 and finance director in May 2005. As director, Dameron is responsible for financial oversight of the city, the employee’s retirement system and the Danville-Pittsylvania Regional Industrial Facility Authority. She manages the finance staff, and she directs and coordinates accounting collections, real estate assessment, purchasing, print shop, budget and internal auditing operations.
“I am leaving with mixed emotions,” Dameron said. “I am excited about my new opportunity, but I have enjoyed my time here. This city has a great management team and staff. I will miss everyone.”
King informed City Council on Monday. He said that the city is immediately undertaking a national search to fill the finance director position. Michael Adkins will serve as interim director following Dameron’s departure. Adkins is the city’s assistant finance director.
