Posted on: August 13, 2014

[ARCHIVED] No injuries in an early evening house fire in Danville, Va.

The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to 324 Central St. at 6pm this evening for a reported house fire. The first unit arriving on scene reported smoke showing from the left end of the house. The fire crews deployed attack hoses through the front door and advanced to the fire room. They made a quick knockdown on the blaze but not before it had done heavy damage to the room of origin and heat and smoke damage to the remainder of the house. The occupants were out of the structure when the Fire Department arrived and there were no injuries. The department responded three engines, one ladder truck, a Battalion Chief and a Safety Officer to the scene. Nineteen fire personnel were on the scene for two hours making sure the fire was out and assisting the occupants. The house cannot be occupied until repairs are made. The Red Cross was contacted and they are assisting the two occupants as needed.

The cause of the blaze was determined to be an electrical short involving a window air conditioning unit.
