The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to 842 Grove Street at 0640 AM for a residence on fire this morning. A neighbor advised dispatchers they could see fire at the back of the house. Units arriving on scene reported fire showing from the rear of a two-story house. It was quickly established that all occupants were out of the house. The fire was controlled and contained to a laundry room in the rear of the house. The fire started from a dryer vent that was blocked off by a basket of clothes sitting on the vent hose. Damage to the laundry room was moderate. The occupants were able to return to the residence. The DFD responded with three engines, one ladder, and three support vehicles. There were 15 personnel on scene from the DFD. Support was provided by the Danville Police Dept. and the Danville Life Saving Crew. This is the second fire caused by a dryer vent in less than a week. The DFD reminds everyone to check lint traps and vent hoses regularly. This includes using the least amount of vent hose as possible and keeping it free of kinks and sharp bends. Brian K.
