The inaugural Community Holiday Light Show wrapped up on Saturday with more than 1,000 cars visiting historic Ballou Park. An estimated 3, 500 people visited the two-week special event and more than 650 free pictures with Santa were taken.

“It is evident that this is something Danville residents wanted and we are excited to have started a new tradition,” Lisa Ferguson, Danville Parks and Recreation Division Director said of the show. “People are already excited for next year’s show.”

The event, which featured 18 displays built by various community groups, ran from Dec. 15–27, and was only closed on Christmas Eve.

“This show was only possible through the continued efforts of very dedicated staff members and volunteer groups,” said Danville Parks and Recreation Director Bill Sgrinia. “It was exciting because this event was a community event that was heavily supported and, in return, supported the community.”

Two dollars per vehicle were donated to the volunteer group working the event each night. Another portion of the proceeds was donated on behalf of the charity of choice to the entries voted the best by the visiting public.

A donation of $1,000 was made to Fraternal Order of Eagles Children’s Christmas Fund for the Eagles’ winning entry.

The second place prize of $800 was donated to American Cancer Association on behalf of the American Cancer Society Pansie Team.

The third place entry built by Old Dutch garnered $600 to be equally divided among St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the Alzheimer’s Association.

“We look forward to seeing this event grow in the future,” Sgrinia added.
