[ARCHIVED] Inside lanes closed as Riverside Drive turning lane project begins

Seal

UPDATE POSTED THURSDAY, JAN. 15: The Riverside Drive turn lane project is under way. The inside lanes – both eastbound and westbound – between Vandola Road and Avalon Drive are closed, and will remain closed until further notice, include weekends.

UPDATE POSTED MONDAY, JAN. 12:

The start of the turning lane improvement project on Riverside Drive will be delayed due to Monday’s rainfall. With rain and possibly a light wintry mix forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, construction will not begin until Thursday at the earliest.

Weather permitting, the project was scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 12, and continue for the next several weeks. The project includes extending two existing turning lanes and creating a new turning lane in the Vandola Road area. The start of the project requires both inside lanes of Riverside Drive from Vandola Road to Avalon Drive to be closed.

A temporary speed limit of 45 mph will be posted during the project.

ORIGINAL STORY POSTED FRIDAY, JAN. 9

Beginning Monday, Jan. 12, and continuing for the next several weeks, both inside lanes of Riverside Drive from Vandola Road to Avalon Drive will be closed to allow for the construction of turning lanes.

Construction will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting.

Motorists are urged to slow down when approaching this area and be alert to altered traffic patterns or consider an alternate route.

In addition to Riverside Drive lane restrictions, the right southbound lane of Central Boulevard from Piedmont Drive to Riverside Drive will be restricted to allow for right-of-way mowing from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, and Tuesday, Jan. 13.
