On Wednesday, February 18th the Danville Fire Department and the Danville Life Saving Crew were dispatched to a report of a person stuck in a piece of snow removal equipment on Main Street. This was at 8:30 pm. Units from both agencies arrived to find a male patient trapped in the equipment. The patient's legs were trapped and the first attempts to remove him from the machinery were unsuccessful. Additional resources were dispatched from both agencies that included extrication equipment. A welding torch and welder were also requested from the City's Public Works Department. Due to the strength of the steel and the patient's location in the machine, the time for the extrication proved to be two hours. All agencies worked together to remove the person from the equipment. During this process the DLSC treated the patient for the traumatic injuries. After he was removed, the Danville Life Saving Crew transported him to DRMC for further treatment.
The DFD and the DLSC responded with multiple units. Public Works and the Danville Police Department also assisted greatly with multiple units on scene. During the incident the temperature was in the mid 20's with wind chills near single digits.
After two and a half hours the road was reopened and all units cleared the scene.
