A body that was found in the Dan River this past Sunday has been positively identified.
Today the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke, VA identified the man as Tommy Jackson Martin, age 38 of Danville. Shortly after the initial news release, the Danville Police Department was contacted by a member of Martin's family indicating that he had not been heard from in over a week. A set of known fingerprints belonging to Martin was sent to the ME's Office, and the body was ultimately identified through fingerprint comparison.
The investigation is ongoing. Additional tests are being conducted, with results that could take several weeks to receive. Additional information will be released when it is appropriate to do so.
