It is with great sadness that we notify you that City Manager M. Lyle Lacy, III passed away yesterday at his home.
Mr. Lacy was appointed Danville City Manager on March 1, 2009. He was appointed Deputy City Manager of the City in February 1999, and served as Interim City Manager from July 1, 2008 to February 28, 2009.
He received his B.S. degree from Hampden-Sydney College in 1969 and his M.P.A. degree from Texas Christian University in 1973. He served as City Manager of Oak Ridge, Tennessee from July 1978 to May 1986; as City Manager of Marietta, Georgia from May 1986 to June 1988; as City Manager of Alliance, Nebraska from August 1988 to December 1993; and as Town Manager of Front Royal, Virginia from January 1994 to January 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; a son, Matthew Lyle Lacy IV, and his fiancé, Kristen Watkins; a daughter, Laura Lacy Hamilton, her husband, Timothy, and their three children, Wyatt, Sam and Nora; and an extended family.
A memorial service will be held March 14 at 2 p.m. at the E. Stuart Grant Center on North Campus of Averett University, located at 707 Mt. Cross Road. If directions are needed, please contact Averett University at 791-5600.
