[ARCHIVED] Tree lighting, trail walk, parade kick off festivities

The first weekend of December offers four big holiday events, beginning Friday with Christmas on the Plaza and the Luminaria Trail Walk, and followed on Saturday by the Holiday Market and Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade.

Here are the details:

Christmas on the Plaza

Friday, Dec. 3, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Main Street Plaza

Hosted by the River District Association, Christmas on the Plaza is an annual holiday tree lighting event. Also, this year’s event features entertainment from community groups; hot chocolate, cookies and popcorn; selfies with Santa; a coat drive for Coats for Kids; freshly made snow; and entertainment from two popular local bands: Boule’ and League of Ordinary Gentlemen.

The Danville Office of Economic Development is hosting a community input session on design renderings of potential uses of the property at 231 Main St. from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Visit www.riverdistrictassociation.com for more information.

Luminaria Trail Walk

Friday, Dec. 3, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Main Street Plaza to the Community Market

This free event is hosted by Danville Parks and Recreation. Celebrate the season with a candlelit stroll along the Riverwalk while listening to holiday music from local carolers and musicians. The walk will begin at the Danville Community Market and end at Main Street Plaza trailhead.

Holiday Market
