[ARCHIVED] Fireworks, fun set for July Fourth celebration

Danville Parks and Recreation’s Annual July 4 Celebration at the Crossing will kick off at 6 p.m. and will feature free entertainment and arts and crafts. This year’s musical entertainment is provided by Seven Til Sunrise and will begin at 7:30 p.m. This band performs a variety of music from old standards and R&B classics, Motown, funky 70s Soul and 80s funk, 90s retro, classic rock anthems, and all the great party hits.

Food and other concessionaires will be on site with items for purchase.

The event is sponsored by URW Community Federal Credit Union, J&J Equipment Rentals and Sales, J&J Truck Sales, Inc., and Danville Parks and Recreation.

Fireworks will begin at dusk on July 4 and will be detonated from the southbound lane of Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge (weather permitting). Pedestrians and motorists can expect changes to the traffic pattern, beginning with the closure of the southbound lane and all access lanes at 1 p.m. The northbound lane and all access lanes will close at 8 p.m. The train trestle pedestrian bridge will close at 9 p.m. The River District can be accessed via Union Street Bridge or Industrial Avenue. The fireworks show is free and open to the community. Free parking is available in and around the River District.

“We’re proud to be offering the only fireworks show happening on July 4 in Danville this year!” Danville Parks and Recreation Communications Specialist Brittney Ham said. “We hope everyone is able to visit the River District and enjoy the show.”

Danville Parks and Recreation’s offices will be closed Monday, July 4.
