Danville, VA Fire Department Media Releases

[ARCHIVED] Blue Ridge Fiberboard fire

The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire @ Blue Ridge Fiberboard on 7/10/22 @ 11:46 Pm.  First arriving unit found fire and smoke just outside the facility where the fiberboard product is stored prior to shipment.  Approximately 100 bundles of fiberboard was involved in fire and plant personnel were attempting extinguishment.  First arriving companies began fire attack and established a water supply.  The fire was knocked down and did not extend into the facility.  The Danville Fire Dept. responded with 3 Engines, 1 Ladder truck, 1 Tender, 1 Support unit, and 1 Command unit.  Agencies on scene that assisted the DFD consisted of, Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police Dept., Danville Electric, Danville Utilities, and plant maintenance personnel.  Fire Dept. personnel remained on scene for approximately 3 hours, 15 minutes during which time forklift operators from the plant moved the bundles of materials and spread them out for further extinguishment.  Once the plant personnel were comfortable with the situation, DFD units cleared and returned to service.  No injuries were reported at this time and the cause of the fire will be under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office.
