[ARCHIVED] 08-16-2022 Police Seeking Public’s Assistance in Identification of Suspect and Vehicle

Gold SUV

The Danville Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect vehicle, identifying suspects, and locating one known individual that has been charged in a Monday evening shooting incident.

On August 15, 2022, at approximately, 5:15 PM, the Danville Police Department responded to the 100 block of North Avenue for reports of gunfire. The investigation found that a gold SUV drove past a group of individuals in the 100 block of North Ave and the occupant(s) of the SUV opened fire as they drove by. A male individual in the group fired back at the SUV as it fled the scene on North Avenue.

Warrants were obtained for the arrest of 18-year-old male Danville resident, Xzvaion Smith, for attempted malicious wounding, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He has not been located and police are asking for the public’s help in locating Mr. Smith. No photograph is available for release at this time.

Detectives are also looking for the gold SUV, which appears to be a GMC Terrain or possibly a Chevrolet Equinox that is pictured below. A parked vehicle and a residence were struck by the exchange of gunfire, but no one was believed to be injured in this incident. This is not believed to be a random act of violence as the individuals involved are believed to know each other.

Also, on August 15, 2022, at approximately, 7:08 PM, the Danville Police Department responded to the 2100 block of Riverside Drive for shots fired. It was reported to police two vehicles exchanged gunfire with each other at a stoplight. Although these are two separate incidents, preliminary investigations show the same gold SUV was involved.

The Danville Police Department is now seeking the public's assistance in locating Xzavion Smith, locating the pictured suspect vehicle, and identifying the suspects who were in the pictured suspect vehicle. Anyone who has information on the shooting incident is asked to please contact the Danville Police Department through any platform. The platforms include calling patrol at 434-799-6510, investigations at 434-799-6508, calling 911, contacting Crime stoppers at 434-793-0000, approach any officer you see, through social media, via email crimetips@danvilleva.gov, or use our crime tips app CARE at https://www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=818# .
