[ARCHIVED] Council waives fee for certain business licenses

The City Council voted Tuesday to waive the annual fee for business licenses issued to persons or businesses with annual gross receipts of $100,000 or less.

However, the fee will still need to be paid if the person or business fails to submit the required licensing information to the Commissioner of Revenue in accordance with prescribed due dates.

The annual fee for a business license is $50, or if paying late, $60. The reduction in the business license revenue for exempting this fee for annual gross receipts of $100,000 or less is $80,000 annually.

In other matters, the City Council voted to:

  • Grant special use permit to operate a childcare facility at 3090 North Main St..
  • Authorize Danville Transit to offer free bus service during the November general elections on an ongoing basis.
  • Direct Danville Utilities to consider new federal standards related to demand response and electric vehicle charging programs.
  • Rescind a previously approved moral obligation agreement with American National Bank for a project at the White Mill.
  • Approve a revised moral obligation agreement with American National Bank for a White Mill project.
  • Reappoint Jermaine Parker to the Danville Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
  • Reappoint Patricia Daniel to the Danville Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
  • Reappoint John Ranson to the River District Design Commission.
  • Appoint Pierre Jones to the Planning Commission.
  • Reappoint Kimberly Walker to the West Piedmont Planning District Commission.
  • Table a proposed ordinance to grant tax exempt status to the Wednesday Club.

The City Council also held first readings on three items. These matters involve grants to support programs/services to juvenile offenders, funds to support for food services at the W.W. Moore Jr. Detention Center, and a grant related to a community policing study.

A first reading is an introductory step required by City Code prior to voting on certain items. The City Council will vote on these matters at its next meeting.
