A vehicle crash involving a Danville City School Bus sent four children to the hospital this afternoon.
At approximately 2:31 pm Danville Police responded to the intersection of North Main Street and Colonial Place for a vehicle crash involving a school bus. The investigation revealed that School Bus #98 from O.T. Bonner Middle School was traveling south on North Main Street and turned left into the path of a 1996 Nissan 4 dr Maxima traveling north on North Main Street. The bus was attempting to turn onto Colonial Place. The driver of the Nissan, a 27-year-old Danville woman, received non-life threatening injuries and did not have to be transported from the scene. Her vehicle sustained approximately $3,500 damage as a result of the crash.
Four (4) of the twenty-eight students who were on the bus went to Danville Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Three were transported by EMS personnel, and the fourth was transported by a parent. Parents of affected students were contacted by school officials. The ages of the children reporting injuries were 11, 12, and 15 (two).
As a result of the crash, the driver of the bus, Lynette Carol Lanier, age 38 of Danville, was charged with failure to yield right-of-way.
