At approximately 3:35 am this morning a citizen called the dispatch center and advised that they saw what appeared to be a 4-year-old black male wearing a striped shirt and shorts walking alone in the 1400 block of Piney Forest Road. The citizen called out to the child, but he ran behind a building. A Danville Police Officer responded to the area and also observed the child from his patrol vehicle, but the child ran away again before the officer could get to him.
Additional officers responded, and an organized search of the area began with additional assistance from the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office providing a bloodhound and from the Virginia State Police providing a helicopter.
After searching the area with negative results, the organized search ended shortly before 7:00 am.
