[ARCHIVED] The Attic Hound opens in the River District

The Attic Hound will host its grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Located at 531 Main St., The Attic Hound is a retail and consignment store that sells antiques, refurbished and repurposed furniture and a variety of gift items.

Joan Daniel, owner, has been a licensed real estate agent in the Dan River region for more than 20 years. When the real estate market slowed during the recession, Daniel became a licensed auctioneer and certified estate specialist in Virginia and North Carolina. After many successes with her company, J.W. Daniel, Total Estate Liquidation, Daniel and her daughter decided to open The Attic Hound.

After looking at many potential locations, Daniel said, “My mind kept coming back to downtown Danville. I love the downtown area and am excited about the revitalization taking place in the River District.” She added, “I want to be part of making it a success.”

“I am thrilled that Joan decided to locate The Attic Hound in the River District,” said Corrie Teague, project manager for the Office of Economic Development. “With Phase I of the Streetscape Improvement Project under way and the demolition of the Downtowner Motor Inn now complete, residents and business owners alike are seeing such an exciting transformation take place before their eyes.”

The Attic Hound will donate a portion of its monthly sales to a local charity. In honor of the store’s coon hound mascot, Tick, a portion of sales during the grand opening will be donated to the Danville Humane Society.
