[ARCHIVED] Registrar’s office reminds Ward 15 voters of new voting location

Danville General Registrar Peggy Petty reminds voters in the Ward 15 voting precinct that the Schoolfield Elementary School gymnasium at 1400 West Main St. now serves as the polling location.

The closing of W. Townes Lea School resulted in the relocation. The Nov. 6 General Election will be the first election held since the relocation went into effect.

In addition, she reminds all voters to present one acceptable form of identification (ID) prior to voting at the polls as now required by state law. Voters arriving to the polls without ID will be required to vote a provisional ballot and will have until noon on Friday after the election to deliver a copy of identification to their locality's electoral board in order for their provisional ballot to be counted.

Acceptable forms of identification include the following:
• Virginia voter identification card
• Valid Virginia driver's license
• Military ID
• Any federal, Virginia state or local government-issued ID
• Employer issued photo ID card
• Concealed handgun permit
• Valid student ID issued by any institution of higher education located in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• Current utility bill, bank statement, government check or paycheck indicating the name and address of the voter

For more information, contact the Registrar’s office at 799-6560 or go to the registrar’s office at 515 Main St. The office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
