[ARCHIVED] Dirty Dan Dash draws 168 runners Saturday

One hundred eighty-six runners braved the frosty temperatures Saturday morning and participated in Danville Parks and Recreation’s Dirty Dan Dash, presented by Danville Regional Medical Center.

The first-year event featured a 3.7-mile track that wound through downtown Danville, across the river and through Dan Daniel Memorial Park. Runners faced more than 15 obstacles, including hay mountains, dirt mountains, tire fields and an array of mud pits.

Participants ranged from all over, including Danville, Raleigh, N.C, Greensboro, N.C. and Charlotte N.C.

“This was a great first-year event,” said Danville Parks and Recreation Director Bill Sgrinia. “It was nice to showcase the River District to our local runners as well as those visiting the area. We look forward to improving the course next year and continuing to show what Danville has to offer the region.”

Despite the not-so-warm temperatures, the Dirty Dan Dash was well received.

“I had so much fun running the Dirty Dan,” said second-place female Michelle Deighton via Facebook. “I was freezing cold, but I didn't care. I can't wait until next year.”

“I had an awesome time at the event,” said Derek Whitlow via Facebook. “It was well organized and had great obstacles.”
