Danville Utilities has restored power to all but about 200 customers in the West Main Street area.
Nearly 2,400 customers lost power at 6:45 a.m. today due to an overload at the Schoolfield substation. The substation serves the West Main Street area to the North Carolina line.
“We are doing everything we can to prevent the situation from happening again,” said Ken Ashworth, director of the power and light division.
Ashworth said it might be early afternoon before power is restored for all customers.
Danville Utilities provides natural gas, water, wastewater and telecommunications services in Danville and distributes electricity to approximately 42,000 customer locations in a 500-square-mile service territory covering Danville, the southern third of Pittsylvania County, and small portions of Henry and Halifax counties.
